The Indigenous communities in Canada have long faced significant health disparities, with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), brain injury and mental health issues being among the most pressing concerns. Ideal Care Support Services (IDEAL CARE) is established to provide specialized FASD, Brain Injury and Mental health services for Indigenous communities through culturally appropriate services, community engagement, and evidence-based practices.
IDEAL CARE offers diagnostic assessments using evidence-based tools such as the Diagnostic Interview for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (DIFASD) or the Modified Finnegan Tool (MFT). Additionally, prevention efforts focusing on raising awareness about the risks associated with alcohol consumption during pregnancy through community outreach programs and educational resources.
IDEAL CARE provides accessible mental health counseling services tailored to Indigenous communities delivered by trained professionals who understand the unique cultural contexts and challenges faced by Indigenous peoples including individual therapy sessions as well as group therapy sessions.
A collaborative care model is employed involving healthcare providers, community leaders, and families fostering a more holistic approach to addressing complex health issues like FASD, Brain Injury and Mental health.
IDEAL CARE provides training programs for healthcare professionals including workshops on trauma-informed care practices or cultural sensitivity training sessions led by experts or community members themselves.
